Kip McGrath Tuition Centre and 1st Flixton Brownies got together on Sunday 29th July to give the very neglected looking planters in the town centre a makeover.
Urmston Business Partnership asked if any local businesses would be willing to undertake the upkeep of the town centre planters and Kip McGrath Tuition Centre volunteered as we are both quite green-fingered! I also run a Brownies unit and thought it would be a great opportunity to get girls involved in a community action. We approached Parker’s Garden Centre in Flixton who kindly gave us an extremely generous discount on new plants.
Despite the rain, lots of Brownies turned out to help. Some of the planters were in a very sorry state, overgrown, neglected and full of litter. One even had half a brick dumped in it!
After a couple of hours hard work, the planters are looking much better and we plan to have another session working on them as well as planting bulbs in Autumn.

The Brownies really enjoyed being able to help improve the appearance of the town centre and were thrilled to get lots of positive encouragement and comments from passers by.
